R3 Development is a non-profit community development organization. Their mission is to empower the youth of East St. Louis with job opportunities that equip them with the resources and skills necessary for success. They specialize in creating programs and ecosystems that improve economic futures for the youth of East St. Louis. They do this through social enterprise efforts that include rehabbing homes in the East St. Louis area. Through partnership as well as donations from private individuals and organizations, they are able to recruit, train, and employ East St. Louis youth while providing leadership development programs. Our programs use best practices that are evidence-based.
Second Saturday workdays are the best way to serve with R3. All volunteers and all skill levels are welcome to join us every second Saturday of every month - rain or shine. Since early 2015, well over 300 youth and adults have partnered to push R3's mission forward by volunteering their talents to swing a hammer, hang a truss, or sweep floors. The results of participating in 2nd Saturdays are astonishing. While 100% of volunteers say they come to serve, the vast majority of volunteers report a list of positive outcomes after serving. Significant results include a more positive view of East St. Louis as well as an increased likelihood of interacting with people who are different from themselves.
Pease join a group of New Community Church servants on the second Saturday of each month as they head over to East St. Louis to serve alongside youth from the city to change the narrative of the metro East and share the light and love of Christ to our community.
Most Second Saturday work days include tasks such as landscaping, painting, clean up and demolition. Be sure to dress to get dirty and sweaty. Anyone Middle School age or older is encouraged to participate. All skill levels from the most basic to highly skilled have a spot waiting for you.
The next work day is scheduled for Saturday, May 8 at 8:00 am in East St. Louis, IL.
Online registration is required here. When you register, additional information will be provided to you regarding site address and work responsibilities for the day. Lunch is served during the devotional break.
